Council Elections

Local government elections are held on the third Saturday in October every two years.

The Shire of Dardanup holds postal elections, which are conducted on its behalf by the Western Australian Electoral Commission.

The next Ordinary election for the Shire of Dardanup will be held on 21 October, 2023.

In the shorter term, advocacy efforts have been identified through extensive community consultation and are outlined in our Advocacy Strategy.

The Shire of Dardanup’s investment projects are designed to accelerate aspirations outlined in our 2050 Vision and are outlined in our Strategic Projects publication.

WA Electoral Commission

The Electoral Commission and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries have publications which provide detailed information for candidates who wish to nominate for a local government election.

Under the Local Government Act 1995, to be eligible to nominate as a candidate for a local government election, the candidate must be an elector of the district (residential or owner/occupier) and over 18 years of age. Other conditions are listed on the WAEC website.

Prior to nominating, all candidates must complete the Induction for Prospective Candidates Course from the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries website. 

Candidates should also familiarise themselves with the Shire of Dardanup Councillor Code of Conduct.

Electoral Gift Register

Under Local Government (Elections) Regulations 1997, gifts received by candidates must be declared to the CEO and published on a register made available on the local government's website.
