The budget for a planned new playground at East Millbridge has been delivered a windfall with an announcement by residential developer Ardross Estate of a $40,000 contribution to the project.

Provided through its ‘Growing Millbridge Fund’ the additional funds will enable inclusion of even more play equipment than previously anticipated and takes the total project budget to almost $165,000.

The new East Millbridge Playground will be achieved thanks to a $75,000 State Government grant plus a Council contribution under its 2022/23 Annual Budget of $48,466.

The playground will be located on public open space between Millbridge Boulevard and Dennison Link and project completion is expected by June.

Shire of Dardanup contractors Active Discovery will commence works in coming weeks.

Listed for inclusion in the new playground and based on the results of community consultation plus advice of the Eaton Advisory Group are:

  • Shade sails
  • Fencing
  • Circuit path around playground
  • Nature play opportunities
  • Softfall material (sand with possible rubber softfall ‘instrusions’)
  • Play equipment suitable for 0-4 age group – swings, slides, climbing features including platforms, balancing features (natural logs, rocks), mini trampoline;
  • Welcome sign with funding acknowledgement
  • Seating with circulation space for prams and wheelchair access
  • Bin

The playground is being designed with 0-4 year-olds in mind due to the high proportion of residents within this age group located in the area. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2021 data, there were 741 children aged 0-4 in Millbridge.

Dardanup Shire President Mick Benett thanked Ardross Estate, the State Government and Collie-Preston MLA Jodie Hanns for her advocacy to help bring the planned project to fruition.

Ms Hanns said: “I am very pleased to have delivered on a $75,000 election commitment from the McGowan Labor Government for the development of this new community open space and I welcome the co-contributions from the Shire of Dardanup and Ardross Estate developers.”

“This space will be a welcome addition for local families, especially those with young children, who will greatly benefit from an accessible and safe space for play and outdoor activities.”
