Thinking of running for Council? Here's what you need to know!

If you've ever wanted to make a real difference in your community, now’s your chance!

The 2025 Local Government Elections are coming up on Saturday, 18 October, and the Shire of Dardanup is calling on passionate locals to step forward.

Before you nominate, here’s the lowdown:

Who can run?
You must be:

  • An elector in the district (either a resident or an owner/occupier).
  • At least 18 years old.

Who can’t run?
You’re not eligible if you:

  • Are already a member of Parliament (State or Federal).
  • Sit on another local council.
  • Are bankrupt or under administration.
  • Are currently serving a prison sentence.
  • Have been convicted of a serious local government offence in the last five years (unless the court says otherwise).
  • Have committed a serious crime punishable by life imprisonment or more than five years.
  • Have been disqualified by a court for misusing council funds or property.
  • Are nominated by a company or corporate body.

Mandatory induction
All candidates must complete the Induction for Prospective Candidates Course through the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety via:
