Sewer services

Information and plumbing diagrams for properties connected to sewer, is held by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and a search can be conducted here

On-site effluent disposal

Where sewer services are not available, an on-site effluent disposal system (septic system) must be installed. An application for an on-site effluent disposal system must be submitted before a Building Permit can be issued.

The Shire of Dardanup can only consider systems that have been approved for use in Western Australia by the State Department of Health.

In many cases, particularly for new subdivision lots, secondary treatment systems are required. For subdivision developments, the Shire is limited to assessing only those systems specified in the subdivision approval.

Common onsite effluent disposal systems include:

Secondary treatment and aerated wastewater treatment systems

Septic tanks

Leach drains

It is always best to speak with your licensed plumber about your preferred system so that they may offer you some practical advice regarding installations and maintenance.

All applications are required to be submitted on the prescribed form available application form.

For commercial or large volume installations, additional information is required, with all applications required to be referred by the Shire to the State Health Department. This process and the relevant application considerations are summarised here.
