Caravans and camping

Camping on private property

Camping on private property is permitted for up to five (5) consecutive days within any 28-day period without Shire approval, provided the camper has the permission of the landowner.

Temporary camping on private property

If you are considering living in a caravan onsite whilst building a dwelling, you must apply in writing for approval. Approval to camp in a caravan may be granted for:

  • Temporary housing after a natural disaster.
  • While building or renovating a home.
  • Seasonal worker accommodation.
  • Supporting someone ageing-in-place.

It is recommended that you contact us prior to purchasing a caravan or making arrangements for temporary accommodation.

Please note:

  • Temporary accommodation is only supported within the ‘Rural’, ‘Rural Residential’, ‘Rural Small Holdings’ and ‘Priority Agriculture’ zones under the Shire of Dardanup Local Planning Scheme No.9.
  • The caravan shall be stored inside an approved outbuilding at all times and shall not be visible from any public road or neighbouring property.

    Structures in caravan parks

A Building Permit is required for the installation of structures within caravan parks, including (but not limited to):

    • Free-standing patios.
    • Ensuites.
    • Carports.
    • Sheds.
    • Rigid annexes.
    • Park homes.

You must also have written approval from your Caravan Park Manger.

All structures must comply with the siting and setback requirements of the Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Regulations.
