The Shire of Dardanup is a finalist in the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) Awards for Best Public Works Project over $5 million, for its Library, Administration and Community Building in Eaton.

Winners will be revealed at the International Public Works Conference in Sydney on Thursday, 28 August 2025, where the Shire’s flagship project is competing alongside:

  • Te Kuru Wetland Project – Christchurch City Council.
  • Aqualink Active Transport Corridor Bacchus Marsh – Moorabool Shire Council.

Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said being recognised on a national stage was an incredible honour.

“To be a finalist in these prestigious awards once again is a testament to the vision, planning and collaboration that went into delivering this project,” Cr Gardiner said.

“The building has quickly become a true community hub, home to the Eaton Community Library, Council Chambers, and versatile meeting spaces.

“The addition of the Mick Bennett Make-It Space has further enhanced its role by creating exciting opportunities for STEAM learning and innovation, ensuring the facility caters to the diverse needs of our growing community.”

The $19.3 million project, delivered on time and under budget in March 2024, has already attracted significant acclaim, winning:

  • Two awards at the IPWEA WA Awards, and
  • The Sustainability Award at the 2024 Urban Development Institute of Australia WA (UDIA) Awards for Excellence.

Designed by Perth architect Peter Hobbs and constructed by Perkins Builders in conjunction with Constructive PD timber structural engineers, the building reflects the Shire’s Wood Encouragement Policy through the use of timber, reducing environmental impact and showcasing leadership in sustainable design.

“This building represents the heart of our 2050 Vision – creating a sustainable, connected and innovative community for generations to come,” Cr Gardiner added.

“It was built for our people – a space that encourages creativity, collaboration and community spirit. Everything about this project has been driven by what will benefit our residents now and into the future.”
