The Shire of Dardanup is inviting local residents and stakeholders to provide feedback on a proposed landscaping project along Ferguson Road, between Charlotte and Little Streets in Dardanup.
With $55,000 allocated in the 2025/26 Budget, the project will enhance the streetscape with new street trees and mulching designed to increase visual appeal, shade, and biodiversity in the area.
A draft landscaping plan is now available for public comment on the Shire’s website until Friday, 15 August 2025 (deadline extended), with hard copies also on display at the Eaton and Dardanup Admin Offices.
Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner encouraged residents to take part in shaping the look and feel of their neighbourhood.
“This is a great opportunity for the Dardanup community to have a say in how their local environment is developed,” Cr Gardiner said.
“Street trees and landscaping not only make our towns more attractive — they improve walkability, provide important shade, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
“We’re keen to hear what our residents think before we finalise the plan and proceed with planting, scheduled in the coming months.”
What’s being planted?
The proposed plan includes a thoughtful mix of local natives and hardy ornamental trees. WA Peppermint trees (Agonis flexuosa) will be used in wider verges to provide excellent shade and support native wildlife. These are tough, drought-tolerant trees well-suited to the region.
In narrower sections or where visibility and overhead powerlines are a factor, the plan proposes colourful Crepe Myrtles (Lagerstroemia), chosen for their bright summer blooms and resilience. Two cultivars, ‘Tuscarora’ and ‘Zuni’, are selected to complement nearby red brick heritage buildings and paving, while keeping sightlines clear. ‘Zuni’ is a smaller tree, for planting near overhead powerlines.
The combination will not only add colour and vibrancy to the area but also increase streetscape resilience and seasonal interest.
How to have your say?
Physical copies are available at the Dardanup and Eaton Admin Offices for those who prefer to review the design in person, or you can visit the Shire’s website at:
