Call for community submission on Burekup cricket net location

Exciting changes are on the horizon for Burekup Oval, with the Shire of Dardanup moving ahead on a major project to deliver brand-new changerooms for local players and families — modern facilities designed to provide a huge boost for community sport and create a welcoming space for everyone who uses the oval.

At last night’s Ordinary Council Meeting, Council endorsed the appointment of Landmark Products Pty Ltd to design and construct the new changerooms, a key milestone in transforming Burekup Oval.

Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the changerooms project is a game-changer for the community.

He said as part of this project, the current shed will be relocated to make way for the new changerooms, ensuring the oval layout works seamlessly for all users.

“This is an exciting step forward for Burekup. The new changerooms will make a real difference for local sport and recreation, and we’re thrilled to see this project moving ahead,” Cr Gardiner said.

With the changerooms now locked in, Cr Gardiner said Council is turning its attention to the next piece of the puzzle: the location of a new cricket practice net.

“To keep the upgrades on track, we need community input on whether the net should be placed north or south of the existing nets,” he said.

“There’s real momentum building at Burekup Oval, and we want the community to help shape these improvements.

“Confirming the best location for the new practice net means we can finalise designs and deliver both projects together.”

Two location options are open for comment:

Option 1 – South side (Council-endorsed location):

  • Aligns with the adopted Burekup Precinct Concept Plan.
  • The Burekup Cricket Club has requested removal of one tree (subject to DWER approval).

Option 2 – North side (requested by the Burekup Cricket Club):

  • Preferred by the Burekup Cricket Club.
  • Requires removal of two medium-sized trees (approved by DWER).
  • Reduces space available for future parking.

Cr Gardiner said the Shire encourages local residents, sports clubs and Burekup Oval users to provide feedback via email at records@dardanup.wa.gov.au or in writing to the CEO, Shire of Dardanup, 1 Council Drive, Eaton WA 6232 by 5pm on Thursday, 4 December 2025.

All submissions received will be presented to Council for consideration at the December Ordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday, 18 December 2025.
