• The SWMS must be specific to the work scope, accurately reflect the hazards identified, and outline appropriate control measures;• Ensure that the SWMS is communicated to all relevant personnel;• Update the SWMS if the work scope or site conditions change;• Retain signed copies and submit them with supporting documentation if requested.
Upon request, the Shire of Dardanup can provide our SWMS template to contractors for their use when fulfilling any high-risk construction work.
The Shire of Dardanup requires all contractors and their workers to wear appropriate PPE for the task and environment in which they are working. PPE is a mandatory line of defence when risks cannot be eliminated through other control measures.
Some common forms of PPE are listed below but contractors much ensure that PPE is worn by all workers when the specific task or site condition require it.
• Hi-visibility clothing or vest (day/night rated);• Safety boots or steel-capped footwear (AS 2210 compliant);• Eye protection;• Hearing protection (where noise exceeds safe exposure levels);• Protective gloves (when handling hazardous or sharp materials).• Respiratory protection;• Safety harness and fall arrest equipment;• Face shields;• Hard hats;• Disposable coveralls or chemical-resistant clothing.
Contractors must:
• Ensure all workers are issued with appropriate PPE and trained in its correct use;• Inspect PPE regularly and replace damaged or expired items;• Include PPE requirements within their risk assessment or SWMS;• Ensure that non-compliance with PPE requirements is addressed immediately.
Please note:

A risk assessment should be undertaken to determine what hazardous chemicals are allowed on site, and the consequences of exposure or hazardous reactions that may impact on the health or safety of workers. These records should be made available to view by Shire of Dardanup officers upon request.
