The Shire of Dardanup acknowledges the passing of former Shire President Trevor Slater, a respected community leader and member of one of Eaton's pioneering families.
Trevor served the Dardanup community through local government, including as Shire President during the late 1980s and early 1990s, helping guide the district through a period of growth and development. His commitment to community service reflected the strong community values that have long been associated with the Slater family.
For many residents, the Slater name is synonymous with Eaton's history. Trevor's parents, Percy and Lylia Slater, owned and operated the iconic Slater's Corner Store on the corner of Pratt Road and Old Coast Road for 25 years. The store became a central part of community life and its name remains familiar to many residents today.
In recognition of Percy and Lylia's significant contribution to the early development of Eaton, the Shire installed the Slater's Corner sign at the Eaton Foreshore in 2021. It stands as a lasting tribute to a family whose service, community spirit and support of local organisations helped shape the Eaton community.
Trevor's own contribution to local government and community life continued that legacy of service. He will be remembered for his leadership, dedication to the district and commitment to making the community a better place for future generations.
As a mark of respect, Shire flags are flying at half mast today.
The Shire of Dardanup extends it sincere condolences to Trevor's family, friends and all who knew him. We thank him for his service and the lasting contribution he and his family made to our district.
The Slater family's story is woven into the history of Eaton, and their legacy will continue to be remembered by generations to come.
