Visitors travelling through the Ferguson Valley will soon have a new place to rest overnight, with the Shire of Dardanup launching a three-month trial of a 24-hour caravan and recreational vehicle (RV) stopover at Ferguson Hall.
The trial will introduce one designated stopover bay in the Ferguson Hall carpark for fully self-contained caravans and RVs, allowing travellers to stay for up to 24 hours while exploring the region.
Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the initiative aims to support tourism in the Ferguson Valley while providing a safe and convenient rest point for visitors passing through the Shire.
Cr Gardiner said the trial reflects Council’s commitment to welcoming visitors and supporting the local tourism experience.
“We love welcoming visitors to the Shire of Dardanup, and the Ferguson Valley is one of our most beautiful destinations,” Cr Gardiner said.
“This trial gives travellers a safe place to stop, rest and enjoy the area, and we hope it adds to their positive experience while they’re here.
“We’re always looking for ways to support tourism and local businesses, and encouraging visitors to spend more time in our region is a great outcome for the community.”
Cr Gardiner said the designated bay is clearly line-marked and signposted, with strict rules in place. Only fully self-contained caravans and RVs will be permitted, meaning vehicles must have onboard freshwater, greywater and blackwater storage, as well as a toilet and kitchenette. Tents, annexes and temporary camping structures will not be allowed.
He said the trial was unanimously supported by Council at its December Ordinary Council Meeting, with the Shire’s Rangers to undertake community consultation with nearby residents and gather feedback during the trial period.
“At the end of the three-month trial, Council will review how the stopover was used, along with the community feedback, before considering whether to make the site a permanent addition,” he said.
“The Shire of Dardanup currently operates similar 24-hour RV and caravan stopovers at Burekup Oval and near Dardanup Town Hall, which have proven popular with travellers exploring the region.”
