Topdressing works at Eaton Oval and Glen Huon Oval

Published on Wednesday, 9 April 2025 at 2:45:26 PM

You may have noticed some works underway at Eaton Oval this week.

The Shire of Dardanup has been busy topdressing the field using an organic-based compost as part of essential maintenance to improve turf health and soil quality.

Why are we doing this?
Topdressing offers a range of long-term benefits for our ovals, including:

  • Improved soil structure for better water and nutrient retention
  • Reduced nutrient runoff into nearby rivers, protecting water quality
  • Boosted microbial activity for natural nutrient cycling
  • Healthier turf that’s more resistant to pests and disease, reducing the need for chemicals

While there may be a temporary earthy smell due to the compost, rest assured it will fade over the next few days once irrigation is reinstated – and the benefits far outweigh the short-term inconvenience.

  • Eaton Oval works are wrapping up today, and we appreciate your patience during this time.
  • Glen Huon Oval will undergo the same topdressing treatment next week, helping us continue to care for and sustain our community sportsgrounds.

Thanks for your understanding as we work to keep our public spaces green, healthy, and thriving!
