Tiny homes, modular dwellings and prefabricated pods are becoming a popular housing option thanks to their flexibility, affordability and smaller footprint.
But before you click "buy now", make sure you know what's required for your property.
While some suppliers may advertise their products as "approval-free" or "ready to install", this isn't always the case. Depending on the size, location and intended use of the structure, approvals and service connections may still be required.
DO:
- Check what approvals may be needed.
- Understand requirements for power, water and wastewater connections.
- Research what applies to your property before committing to a purchase.
DON'T:
- Assume every tiny home is approval-free.
- Rely solely on supplier advertising.
- Risk costly surprises after you've bought.
Before you buy, visit the Shire's Tiny Homes webpage.
