The Shire of Dardanup will expand its rural rubbish service to Ferguson, Henty, and Wellington Mills, in response to community input received earlier this year.
After a comprehensive in-house assessment, which included consultation with the Shire's contractor, the Council agreed at its October Ordinary Meeting to establish a rural rubbish roadside collection service.
The Shire of Dardanup CEO André Schönfeldt, said the voluntary service will provide residents with one 240-litre red top general rubbish bin and one 240-litre yellow top recycling bin, with general rubbish weekly collection scheduled for Mondays and recycling collected fortnightly.
Mr Schönfeldt said for the 2023/24 financial year, the cost of this extended rural waste collection service will remain at the current two-bin charge of $239, pro-rata with no additional fee for the initial bin delivery.
"This expansion of our rural rubbish service is a testament to the Shire’s commitment to meeting the needs of our community, and we are delighted to offer this service to our residents in Ferguson, Henty, and Wellington Mills,” Mr Schönfeldt said.
“The success and sustainability of this initiative will depend on residents’ active involvement, and we encourage all eligible ratepayers to participate. The more ratepayers that opt into the service, the more viable the service will be, and the lower the rates.
“It's important to note that the charges for this extended rural service will be reviewed annually as part of the Fees and Charges review during the 2024/25 budget considerations.”
Mr Schönfeldt said the Shire is committed to providing a waste service that is efficient and effective, which meets the needs and expectations of the community and strives to divert as much waste from landfill as possible.
“Innovative and more sustainable waste management solutions were listed as a priority in Council’s 2050 Vision and Council Plan 2022-2032, both developed with extensive community input,” he said.
The new rural rubbish service will cover the following streets:
- Eastern Rise
- Ferguson Road from the Ferguson Hall to Wellington Mill Road
- Gardincourt Drive
- Greenwood Heights
- Henty Road
- Lennard Road
- Japonica View
- King Tree Road to Lot 51
- Nyleeta Close
- Pfennig Place
- Pile Road between Ferguson Road and Gardincourt Drive
- Seaview Heights
- The Dress Circle
- Wellington Mill Road.
