New bin service option now available

It’s almost 6 months since our new 3 Bin Fogo Service was rolled out.

Using your new FOGO bin correctly has provided a giant leap towards our goal of diverting waste from landfill. In February we more than tripled the amount of household rubbish being diverted from landfill compared to the results of a recycling audit in September, 2019 which showed just 14% of rubbish being diverted.

By 2025, the State Government has set WA a target for 55%. It’s doable. And for our planet, it’s worth it.

As we continue working towards our goal, community feedback over the past six months has shown a need for more flexibility in the bin services we offer.

Rates of contamination in FOGO bins collected by our contractor have been as high as 20% where we had hoped to achieve below 5% to create savings on waste processing fees.

To address the problem we’ve come up with a two-pronged approach:

  1. More community support on reducing and sorting waste;

(Our waste contractor Suez has been setting up a schedule of school visits with presentations on recycling plus we have an online workshop coming up in April, with more in the pipeline.)

  1. Council in February also agreed to an alternative service to allow the lids on your FOGO and General Waste bins to be swapped, which will provide a smaller 140L Fogo Bin and a 240L General Waste Bin.

(Our bin lid swap option is available at a once-off cost of $50, paid for on request and on top of your standard bin service fee.)

To request an alteration to your bin service, please phone us on 9724 0000 or email records@dardanup.wa.gov.au

All those community members who have either already placed an order to increase their bin size OR have an additional General Waste bin, will be contacted by our Customer Service Officers within the next 10 days to provide them the option to convert to the newly introduced alternative service mentioned above.
