The Shire of Dardanup advises that temporary fencing has been installed at Southbank near the Treendale Bridge on Eaton Drive, to support safe kangaroo management during early residential construction works.

The privately-owned land and is being developed in accordance with approvals issued by the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC). Decisions about subdivision and development are made by the State Government, not the Shire of Dardanup.

The Shire supports the Southbank Residential Structure Plan, which was endorsed many years ago and provides the long-term planning framework for residential development in this area.

While kangaroos are not the responsibility of the Shire, the Shire is actively involved with the developer and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) to ensure appropriate animal welfare measures are in place throughout construction.

A Kangaroo Management Plan has been prepared by the developer and includes measures such as staged works, exclusion fencing, daily monitoring and maintaining safe dispersal pathways into nearby bushland and Regional Open Space.

A portion of the Southbank land has been permanently secured as Regional Open Space, helping to protect habitat and wildlife movement corridors into the future.
