Focusing on our heritage places

A list of local heritage places will be created by the Shire of Dardanup as part of an upcoming review of the existing Local Heritage Strategy (LHS) thanks to a $20,000 State Government grant.

Identifying heritage places in the LHS supports the sharing of community history, development of education programs and heritage trails and helps local governments to identify how heritage places will be protected through the heritage list.

As part of the review process, Council will undertake a formal period of community consultation later this year with opportunities to provide input on identification of heritage places.

In announcing the Local Government Heritage Consultancy Grant, Heritage Minister David Templeman said: “Local Governments through close engagement with their communities, perform a central role in identifying and protecting places of cultural heritage significance within their districts.”

“These places are extremely important to their community fabric because they contribute to a feeling of connectedness and sense of place.”
