Prizes, giveaways and plenty of ‘come and try’ activities will be on offer when the Eaton Recreation Centre comes alive when it hosts a free community Open Day on Saturday, 17 January 2026.
From bouncy castles and Bluey to sport, fitness and free gym access, the event invites people of all ages to step inside, try something new and discover why the Centre is a true community hub.
Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the event was a great opportunity for the community to experience everything the Eaton Recreation Centre has to offer.
“More than 265,000 visits to the Eaton Recreation Centre in 2025 shows just how important this facility is to our community, and why we’re proud to keep investing in a place where people of all ages can be active, connect and support their wellbeing,” Cr Gardiner said.
“This Open Day is about opening the doors and showing just how much is on offer for families, kids, seniors and local sporting groups.
“Over the past year, the ERC has benefited from significant upgrades including refurbished changerooms, improved accessible amenities, a refreshed internal and external fit-out, new digital systems, and enhanced spaces to better support fitness, sport and community programs.”
Families can enjoy bouncy castles, a children’s activity zone with soft play and games, face painting, face bling, and a special appearance by Bluey and Bingo from 10.15am to 11.15am.
The event will showcase many of the Centre’s valued partners and user groups, including South West Slammers, Basketball WA, Eaton Basketball Association, Eaton Netball Association, Eaton Boomers Netball, WA iSports, Elite Supps, Eaton Community College and Eaton Primary School.
Visitors are encouraged to don their active wear and take part in free group fitness pop-ups, including RPM, Pilates and freestyle sessions, as well as live sport demonstrations across basketball, netball, badminton and pickleball.
“The Open Day highlights the strong partnerships we have with local clubs and organisations,” Cr Gardiner said.
“These groups play a vital role in supporting participation, developing talent and strengthening our community.”
The Centre will also offer free gym access, Evolt body scans, extended free creche access (for gym and group fitness participants), and special membership offers. The on-site café will be providing free samples of protein balls, shakes and healthy snacks.
Giveaways throughout the day will include gym memberships and fitness passes, raffle prizes, free morning sport passes and Vacation Care passes for the April program.
“We’re proud to continue investing in the Eaton Recreation Centre and the programs it delivers,” Cr Gardiner said.
“Events like this help people discover new activities, try something different and feel connected to their local community.
“The ERC proudly supports the Act Belong Commit® message, encouraging people to stay active, build connections and get involved in meaningful activities that support positive mental health and wellbeing.”
