Eaton Rec Centre upgrades strengthen community hub

The Eaton Recreation Centre (ERC) has received a welcome boost through a series of upgrades supported by Australian and State Government funding, enhancing the experience for the thousands of people who use the facility each year.

Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the ERC is a vital community hub, offering health, fitness, sport, childcare and recreational activities, along with community events, and attracting more than 280,000 visits annually.

A key recent upgrade is the installation of a new fan on court 3, funded through the Small Grants Program ($25,0000) supported by the Cook Government, improving airflow and comfort across the courts.

Additional improvements include refurbished changeroom facilities through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Funding (CSRFF) Grant ($124,866), as well as internal and external painting works funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program ($203,522), with Council’s contribution of over $400,000 for building upgrades.

“These upgrades show what can be achieved when Federal, State and Local government work together to support facilities that keep our communities active, healthy and connected,” Cr Gardiner said.

“With consistently high usage, more than 600 valued members and strong community support, these improvements ensure the ERC remains a modern, welcoming and well‑equipped facility for people of all ages.”

Cr Gardiner said the upgrades have received strong positive feedback from sports groups, schools and vacation care participants, further highlighting the centre’s value to the community.

He said Council last week approved the tender for upgraded cardio fitness equipment, continuing investment in high‑quality facilities for members and visitors.

Senator for Western Australia Ellie Whiteaker said the Albanese Labor Government's investment is making a real difference in Eaton.

“The ERC brings this community together, and partnering with the State Government and Shire of Dardanup to deliver these upgrades ensures it remains a first-class facility for the 280,000-plus people who use it every year,” Senator Whiteaker said.

Member for Collie‑Preston Jodie Hanns MLA said the Eaton Recreation Centre is a vital community asset, and the upgrades reflect the Cook Labor Government's commitment to investing in regional sporting infrastructure.

“After feedback from members of the Eaton Basketball Association, I was pleased to make the installation of the new fan an election commitment,” Mrs Hann said.

“I'm delighted to see it delivered alongside $124,866 in Cook Government CSRFF funding for accessible and inclusive changeroom facilities.

“These improvements will be enjoyed by the Eaton community for many years to come."

Eaton Basketball Association (EBA) Director of Operations Wes Morgan said the upgrades have made a noticeable difference to the association’s game nights.

“The improved facilities have lifted the overall experience for our EBA families, creating a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for everyone involved,” Mr Morgan said.

“It’s been great to see the positive impact each week, with more people around the venue and families spending more time together and enjoying the atmosphere.

“These changes have truly helped make game nights a better experience for our whole community.”
