News from the Shire of Dardanup Council Meeting on Wednesday, 17 December 2025.
From the Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner:
Burekup cricket nets location confirmed
Following consideration of the Burekup Cricket Club’s request for an alternative north-side location for the new practice net, Council sought community feedback. With no strong preference expressed, Council resolved to proceed with the south-side location, in line with the endorsed Burekup Precinct Concept Plan.
Up to $12,263 from the 2024/25 Parks and Reserves Budget has been approved to complete the project.
Kerbside rural two-bin kerbside waste collection
After significant debate, Council endorsed the commencement of a compulsory ‘whole of Shire’ two-bin kerbside waste collection service for all eligible rural properties, set to roll out from April to May 2026 and rated from 1 July 2026.
An amendment to the resolution was included, authorising the CEO to issue a coupon providing a 50% discount on 20x 240L bin tip passes for the rural properties newly included in the rural service. The decision also ensures residents will be informed of service costs and tip pass charges ahead of implementation, supporting a smooth transition to the expanded service.
Boosting collaboration through BunGeo councils
Council has given in-principle support to the Draft Memorandum of Understanding, Governance Charter, and Code of Conduct for the Bunbury Geographe Group of Councils, including a shared funding model for an Executive Officer.
This initiative strengthens the region’s voice and visibility and raises the profile of the Shire of Dardanup, with the Shire contributing up to $30,000 per year.
Progressing Waterloo Precinct planning
Endorsement was given for the Chief Executive Officer to enter a Heads of Agreement with Mimosa Development Pty Ltd, allowing planning for Waterloo Precinct 1 to advance under Local Planning Scheme No. 9 and the Waterloo District Structure Plan.
Council also approved the appointment of Firm B to prepare the Local Scheme Amendment and Local Structure Plan, funded from the approved loan-funded planning allocation.
Trial 24-hour RV stopover at Ferguson Hall
A three-month trial for a dedicated 24-hour caravan and RV stopover at Ferguson Hall was unanimously approved, providing a safe, managed option for self-contained travellers.
The trial encourages visitors to explore local attractions and stay longer, while allowing the Shire to gather community feedback before considering a permanent facility.
Revised Parkridge Estate proposal endorsed
Council has supported the revised Amendment 1 to the Parkridge Estate Structure Plan after reviewing updates to public open space, residential layouts, road infrastructure, environmental management, and water strategies.
The approved changes enhance recreation areas, improve road safety and connectivity, and strengthen environmental and water management measures, ensuring a sustainable future for the Parkridge Estate community. Ferguson Valley Marketing support for grant
Council unanimously agreed to provide in principle support to Ferguson Valley Marketing Inc. (FVM) for their Regional Economic Development grant application.
The funding will support upgrades to Visitor Centre facilities, including relocating the Dardanup Visitor Information Centre, repurposing the Don Hewison building as an Arts & Events Space, and installing a temporary Visitors Centre at Gnomesville.
Council noted that planning approvals, community engagement, and stakeholder consultation will be undertaken prior to any works, and looks forward to FVM presenting their new Strategic Plan 2026-2030 in February 2026.
Glen Huon Oval lighting and scoreboard upgrade funded and awarded
Council unanimously approved the award of the Glen Huon Oval Lighting and Scoreboard contract to Kalamunda Electrics.
The project is fully funded through a State Election Commitment administered by Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, supporting lighting upgrades and a new electronic scoreboard for the Eaton Football Club.
While the original request sought completion before the 2026 football season, market feedback identified supply lead times as a constraint. Following consultation with the Eaton Boomers and the Minister, the completion timeframe was extended to May 2026.
Works are scheduled to commence in early 2026, with the Shire working closely with the Club to minimise impacts to training during construction.
