Council's March meeting outcomes update

Key outcomes from the Shire of Dardanup’s recent Ordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday, 26 March 2025 included progress on major strategic projects, community consultation on future planning, and decisions around tourism, infrastructure, and environmental management.

Key decisions from the meeting included:

Updated Strategic Community Projects endorsed

Council adopted the updated Strategic Community Projects 2025 document, which outlines priority investment projects aimed at building healthy, connected, sustainable, and innovative communities. The projects also present strong opportunities for State and Federal co-investment. View the document at: Strategic Projects.

Extended visitor hours at Gnomesville

Council approved Ferguson Valley Marketing’s application to extend trading hours for the Gnomesville pop-up Visitor Centre from four to five hours, enhancing visitor engagement and tourism promotion in the Ferguson Valley.

Wanju and Waterloo planning progress

Council endorsed progress on the Wanju District Structure Plan amendment, with public advertising set for mid-2025 and WAPC endorsement by April 2026. The draft Local Planning Scheme No. 9 is with the Minister for reconsideration, with gazettal expected by June 2025. Procurement is underway for Waterloo Industrial Park infrastructure planning, and environmental reports supporting rezonings in both areas will be made freely available to proponents.

 Tronox Cell 1 – Special meeting called

Council did not support the motion to clear conditions for the decommissioning and capping of Tronox Waste Cell 1 at Banksia Road, Crooked Brook. A Special Council Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 9 April to consider the matter further.

 Eaton Foreshore Concept Plan open for feedback

Council endorsed the draft Eaton Foreshore Precinct Concept Plan to proceed to public consultation. Feedback will be considered ahead of final endorsement at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 25 June 2025. Keep an eye on the Shire’s website and social media for updates.

 Proposed road closure – Twomey Road Reserve

Council approved advertising a proposal to permanently close a portion of the Twomey Road Reserve in Crooked Brook. Public submissions are invited, with the matter returning to Council after the comment period. Council will advertise from this week.

 Integrated planning – budget work underway

Council received the minutes of the Integrated Planning Committee Meeting held on 12 March 2025. The Committee has commenced budget planning for 2025-2026, focusing on asset transition and renewal.

Council’s next Ordinary Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 23 April 2025 from 5pm at the Council Chambers. All welcome.
