The Shire of Dardanup is throwing a free community barbecue in Eaton this month as part of a series of events designed to bring people together in a relaxed environment for learning about topics that matter.

Access and inclusion will be the theme for this latest event under ‘Project Connect’ with keynote speaker, three times Paralympic medallist Brad Scott to share his compelling story and work towards building inclusive communities across WA.

In line with the event theme, representatives from a range of service providers will be in attendance including Advocacy WA, Forrest Personnel, Grow Eat Cook Inc, SW Aboriginal Medical Service and more.

Upbeat entertainment will be provided by the local men’s sea shanty singing group, The Anchormen with AUSLAN translations from Kelly Hope CODA (Children of Deaf Adults).

In addition, attendees will also have an opportunity participate in the Shire’s current Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) review.

The Eaton Lions Club will be serving at the Project Connect Community Barbecue on Thursday, March 30, 5.30pm – Eaton Sports Pavilion.

The series of free community barbecues for a cause was launched last year with the first focus theme of the South West Cancer Council’s ‘Find Cancer Early’ campaign.

Future community barbecues are planned for Dardanup and Burekup with new special guests planned for each event to cover a range of conversation topics.

A more ‘connected community’ was a recurring theme expressed by participants in several Shire of Dardanup consultations which informed development of the both the 2050 Vision and Council Plan 2022-32.

Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett said it was important community members were aware of support services available to them and Connected Community BBQs provided a convenient and enjoyable opportunity to stay informed.

“This event is about facilitating growth of our natural community supports by connecting participants to local service providers as well as creating new friendships,” Cr Bennett said.

“What better way is there to connect and learn than through a good conversation, over a casual barbecue with live music and friends you haven’t met yet?”

This event is free to attend however bookings are essential and can be made via this page of our website.
