The Shire of Dardanup’s new award-winning Library, Administration and Community Building will host a free Community Open Day this Saturday, 4 May from 10am -1pm.
Shire of Dardanup President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said the recently opened building now serves as the heart of municipal operations for the Shire and houses the Eaton Library, Council Chambers, Administration Centre, as well as a Café and state-of-the-art Make-It Space which will open to the public later this year.
“The Community Open Day will celebrate the end to this tremendous 11-year project, and we look forward to welcoming the community to check it what this building has to offer for many generations to come,” Cr Gardiner said.
“It was great to officially open the building last week and honour those who were part of the project from start to finish, and Saturday is about inviting the community in to celebrate a building that was created with them in mind.”
Cr Gardiner said the library, reception, Council Chambers and Make-It Space will be open to the community between 10am-1pm, with refreshments available for purchase from a coffee van and sausage sizzle run by the Eaton Lions Club.
He said the Eaton Library will run a range of fun activities for kids and families, including free face painting, story time with Corenne the fairy, sensory play, Star Wars air-dry clay making workshop, library bag decorating and more.
“Demonstrations in the Make-It Space will be run by the Repair Café and attendees are encouraged to bring along any small household items for sewing, general and electrical repairs,” Cr Gardiner said.
“We can’t wait to open this building to the community officially and hope members of the public bring their families along to celebrate this exciting milestone in Shire of Dardanup’s history.”
The new building recently claimed two distinguished awards at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) Awards, receiving the Best Public Works Project Greater than $5 million Award (Regional) and the Excellence in Environment and Sustainability Award.
