The Shire of Dardanup will screen a video tribute commemorating the lives and history of local ANZAC heroes at the Dardanup ANZAC Day service held tomorrow, Thursday, 25 April.

Salute Their Service, is a short film that recounts the lives and heroic stories of residents who lived in the Shire of Dardanup and surrounding areas during the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.

Local historians Danny Harris, Jeff Pierce and Darren Foster uncover the sacrifices, achievements and struggles of six Shire of Dardanup residents, William and Joseph Harris, Mervyn and James Ross, John George Foster, and Elma Mary Linklater in this moving memoir.

The narrators share memories, personal anecdotes, and family heirlooms throughout the short film to recount the story of what life was like for people living in Eaton, Dardanup and surrounds during the turbulent times of World War 1.

Salute Their Service is a multi-media project created by the Shire of Dardanup and produced by local video production company, Lomax Media. The project was funded under the Commonwealth Government’s Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.

Shire President Cr Tyrrell Gardiner said that by sharing their stories, history and ordeals during the war, their sacrifices are never forgotten and are recognised as an integral testimony to the spirit of the Dardanup community.

“We hope that the Salute Their Service project will provide further evidence to the rich past of Dardanup and memorialise these important stories, sacrifices and achievements for many generations to come,” Cr Gardiner said.

“We hope that by sharing these stories, we encourage the community to respect, reflect and remember all those that served during World War 1.”

Cr Gardiner also encouraged community members to attend the ANZAC Day services held in the Shire of Dardanup this week.

The ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held from 6am and the Main Service and morning tea from 9am. Both will be held at the Dardanup War Memorial.
