Young recipients of Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Scholarships from the Shire of Dardanup attended a recent presentation evening to regale elected members with stories of their life-changing experiences aboard the STS Leeuwin sailing ship.

Local residents Jayden Meek, Jorja Asplin, Chloe Horton, Kynen Neill and Grace Ieraci voyaged on the Leeuwin in January between Albany and Fremantle.

Chloe, 16, from Dardanup told Councillors the experience had taught her a lot about herself.

“With these lessons that I have learnt from being on the Leeuwin II, I feel I will be way more confident around new people and to deal with any new challenges head on,” she said.

While Kynen from Eaton said lessons delivered by his voyage experience would benefit his future school, work and personal life.

“I have learnt that I am capable of being a strong leader and have the ability to do anything I set my mind to,” he said.
