A big group of Shire residents from a broad range of backgrounds made their Australian Citizenship Pledge at a ceremony held at the Eaton Football Pavilion last week.
An amazing total of 30 conferees made their pledge, having settled in our shire after migrating from an incredibly diverse range of backgrounds and country of origins including:
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- South Korea
And the celebratory atmosphere was heightened by the inclusion of a performance by the Vocal Fusion Choir.
There are just over 14,000 residents in the Shire of Dardanup and population forecasts show growth is currently occurring at a rate of 2.5 per cent. This is however expected to accelerate over time.
Census Data from 2016 showed 23.5 per cent of residents were born overseas – slightly below the national figures of 28.5 per cent of residents born overseas.
The value of cultural diversity is reflected in the Shire of Dardanup’s Place and Community Plan 2020 – 2030 which lists among its actions:
Develop, support and implement events and programs that encourage cross-generational and cross-cultural interactions.
This action is linked to the following outcome of the Strategic Community Plan 2018-2028:
