Concept designs for a $3.8 million transformation of the almost 50-year-old Eaton Bowling and Social Club into a new Community Hub were unveiled by Premier Mark McGowan when he slipped into town recently ahead of a regional Cabinet Meeting.
Mr McGowan also announced a top-up to $3 million on a previous election commitment to assist with funding to improve the facilities.
“The original plan was to upgrade the bowls club but, after some planning, it became clear that a brand new facility was the best option,” Mr McGowan said.
Dardanup Shire Council is contributing $500,000 to the project and Shire President Mick Bennett said expressions of interest to undertake the works concluded in May with a Tender advertised this month and construction expected to begin in December.
The new Community Hub is designed to provide a shared space for local events and activities. The building is intended to be constructed from timber in order to maximise the opportunity for local timber from the South West Timber Hub.
The Hub will include consists of a Bowling Club, Senior Citizen’s Club and Tennis Club plus a dedicated function room, kitchen upgrade, office space and other infrastructure improvements.
