Shire hosts Premier and Cabinet in Eaton

The Shire of Dardanup was honoured yesterday to host Premier Mark McGowan and members of his Ministry for a regional Cabinet Meeting in Eaton.

Mr McGowan spoke with media representatives out the front of our Administration Centre, Eaton before entering the building to check in on the Safe WA app and greet staff members.

Premier Mark McGowan speaks with Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett and CEO André Schönfeldt.

Prior to commencing his meeting with Cabinet, Mr McGowan presented Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett and Shire of Dardanup CEO André Schönfeldt with a $20,000 Lotterywest grant towards a new event concept developed by the Shire’s Place & Community Team called ‘Enlighten’.

A staff report to Council’s Ordinary Meeting this week will request formal acceptance of the funds.

From Friday 18 to 19 March, 2022, the Shire of Dardanup will present Enlighten – an inclusive and immersive digital event experience co-created with our community.

Through community participation and interaction with artists and creative teams, people will learn skills and contribute to a projection based digital media public art installation at the new Eaton Skate Park themed around mental health.

Cr Bennett said mental health was an issue that resonated strongly with the community and the new Enlighten event was a unique, creative and inclusive way of shining a light on the issue.

“Our Launch Night on March 18 will utilise amenities surrounding the Skate Park like Glen Huon Oval and will include a variety of arts and light-based experiences to inspire, awe and encourage participation,” Cr Bennett said.

Information about community workshops providing the opportunity for participants to contribute to the art installation will be released soon.
