Shire brigades prepare for ‘active’ season

There are 8 local volunteer Bush Fire Brigades operating within the Shire of Dardanup and their work to protect our properties from the threat of bushfire season begins long before summer arrives.

Our troops spent Sunday morning at the Dardanup West Fire Station with DFES Area Officer John Carter for a desktop training exercise.

Shire Chief Fire Control Officer Chris Hynes was there along with Collie Chief Julian Martin, Fire Captains and brigade members including Joshua Crooked Brook Brigade member Peter Robinson, far right.

With the Bushfire and Natural Hazards Cooperative Research Centre predicting the 2019/20 South West fire season would be an active one, Chris said the training was a valuable learning exercise in preparation for the coming fire season.
