What would encourage you to cycle more? Contribute to our Bike Plan…

More people than ever before are riding bikes driven by environmental concerns, health concerns, government investment in trails and the rapidly improving technology of e-bikes and scooters.

In fact, cycling is one of the most popular forms of recreation in Australia, ranking third for males and fifth for females.

The Shire of Dardanup wants to add pedal-power to the trend by finding out what you would need to cycle more – both for recreation and transport!

How and where can we improve our facilities to put us on the path toward the ambition listed in our 2050 Vision of “Facilitate connection between our geographically diverse centres with cycling, scooting and ride-share.”

Our conversation on this is off to a cracking start with valuable community member input about mountain biking trails, in particular, collected during preparation of our Sport and Recreation Plan in 2020 which has already been provided to our consultants for consideration in developing the Bike Plan.

But we don’t just want to hear from people who already cycle a lot! We want to hear as well from those who don’t so we can learn more about any barriers that might exist to you cycling more.

Should we have more cycle routes? Wider routes? More inter-connected routes? Cycle routes with a different surface or with more lighting? How could we encourage more students to cycle to school? Or more people to work?

Our resulting Bike Plan will be incorporated into our future planning and complement the existing Bunbury Wellington 2050 Cycling Strategy which provides a regional approach to development of cycle routes for enhanced connection between various places of interest and received significant input from Shire of Dardanup residents.

There are several mechanisms for adding your voice to development of our Bike Plan.
