Last chance to access no cost Blackberry control measures

An almost million-dollar project to eradicate invasive blackberry across three local government areas – including the Shire of Dardanup – is nearing completion.

Under the South West Blackberry Collaborative Scheme, 60 property owners covering 8ha within the project area and with blackberry infestation, have had control measures undertaken at no cost, funded via the scheme.

With the project nearing completion, time is running out to access this opportunity for implementation of a blackberry control plan on your property.

If you would like to access this opportunity, please urgently contact Project Manager Chris Howe at the Leschenault Catchments Council on 9791 4773, or email chris.howe@leschenaultcc.org.au.

The South West Blackberry Collaborative Control Scheme is a joint project between the Shire of Dardanup and shires of Donnybrook-Balingup and Collie to identify and target blackberry hotspots due to its negative impact on agricultural production.

Funding of $945,798 was provided by the Federal Government’s ‘Communities Combating Pest and Weed Impacts During Drought’ Program.

For information about the project, please feel free to contact our Shire of Dardanup Environment Officer by emailing:  Jackie.nichol@dardanup.wa.gov.au
