Members of our Eaton Recreation Centre & 24hr Gym can lay claim to training with an elite athlete over the next month as former local, now international basketball export Cameron Gliddon drops back into town for a break between contracts.

Cameron with his wife Sarah and their two small children are spending time with family following a stint in Melbourne where Cameron had a two-year deal with the National Basketball League’s South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Their next stop will be Auckland where Cameron has a two-year deal with the New Zealand Breakers.

With a region-leading range of equipment plus 24-hour opening hours, Cameron has decided to make use of Eaton Recreation Centre’s facilities to maintain his strength and fitness between seasons.

As home of State Basketball League team the South West Slammers, (Cameron’s former team) he will certainly be in good company at ERC.

Following on from Cameron’s visit ERC is also working with the Perth Wildcats to bring a pre-season match to the centre in the future.

Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett said it was a fantastic endorsement on the caliber of facilities at ERC to have elite athletes like Cameron choosing to train there.

“Eaton is fast-becoming a hotspot for professional basketball in the South West providing great opportunities for our community to engage with the sport,” Cr Bennett said.

Starting his basketball career at the PCYC Bulls in Bunbury, Cameron has since played for teams in the US and Russia, been named NBL Rookie of the Year and helped the Australian Boomer’s win gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2018.

In the NBL he’s played for the Cairns Taipans, Brisbane Bullets, Canterbury Rams and the Phoenix.

Welcome home Cameron! We hope you and your family enjoy your stay and that you will visit us all again soon.
