The Shire of Dardanup provides a leg-up to Local Legends achieving amazing things through its ongoing program of Personal Development Grants.

Grants of up to $400 are provided to promote non-professional personal development of residents.

Funds can be used to assist with the cost of state or national representation or attendance at masterclasses in their chosen field of music, arts, culture or academia.

Here are a few Local Legends who have benefited from the program recently:

Alister Herrmann

Alister represented WA in Melbourne at the 2022 Australian DanceSport Championships.

Alister was selected as a recipient of the Shire of Dardanup’s Personal Development Grant, to assist with costs of attending the championship in Melbourne.

Alister and his dance partner achieved the top ranking in WA! The couple also competed in 5 events and in one event were the highest ranking couple of WA!

Waireena Pohe

Waireena was recently awarded the Shire of Dardanup’s Personal Development Grant to assist with costs associated with attending the Under 13 Girls Australian Hockey Championships in Hobart!

Waireena was selected as player of the match and the U13 WA team placed second in the championship. Congratulations Waireena and team!

Denis Hynes

Local Legend Denis Hynes was selected to represent WA at the 37th Australian Eightball Championship held in Albury, NSW.

Denis competed in the open class championship against the country’s best and was able to share his experience with local comp players in hopes of encouraging more participants to strive to compete at the National level – that’s what makes a Local Legend!

Lewis Brace

Lewis was selected for the U14 State Team to represent WA at the National Youth Soccer Championships in Coffs Harbour. Lewis attended the championships and was named captain for the WA Team and was also noticed by A League Clubs and Football Scouts while competing.

Lewis’s outstanding performance at the championships has resulted in him being selected to play for the Perth Glory Under 16s team in 2023!
