E-waste collection service having an impact

Can you imagine the weight of 21 VW Beetles?

Its equivalent to the amount of waste we have diverted from landfill over the past 12 months via the E-waste Collection service provided by resident recycling superhero Matt Meijer with funding support from the Shire of Dardanup.

Among the 21 tonnes of materials that were recycled rather than landfilled during the 2021/22 financial year were:

  • 16,362kg of scrap metals!
  • 126 televisions
  • 107 printers
  • 264 paint cans
  • 52kg of ink cartridges
  • 612 light globes
  • 93kg of coffee pods
  • 232kg household batteries
  • 686kg mixed small electronics
  • 182kg bottle tops

And that’s not even the full list!

This is an incredible result from a trial service first introduced by Council in March last year. Given community support of the initiative and the volume of materials being recycled, Council agreed earlier this year to continue supporting Matt’s work for another 12 months.

Thank you to all of the recycling champions who have been using the service already. Let’s keep ‘Reducing Waste Together’ and see if we can top this result for 2022/23.
