Planning for completion of stages 2 and 3 of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road took a giant step forward last week with the Federal Government announcing $560 million in funding for the project had now been allocated.
The funding will allow the section of road between the South Western Highway and the Bussell Highway along with a section from the Perth-Bunbury Highway to near Picton Boyanup Road to be completed.
WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the last State Budget also included a $12.5 million allocation towards the Bunbury Outer Ring Road.
“This latest Commonwealth funding allows us to finalise the planning, consultation and approvals and then get on with building the road,” she said.
“This is a major win for jobs in the South-West and a major win for Bunbury residents who will see reduced freight traffic on local roads.”
Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray said completion of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road would also allow traffic to flow more smoothly to South West tourist destinations.
“Additionally, the construction phase of this project will create jobs, providing welcome economic benefits for the region.”
