Waste management company Cleanaway has withdrawn its 3 development applications related to requested changes to operations at the Banksia Road Landfill site.
Cleanaway’s now withdrawn applications were for:
- Construction of a new leachate pond;
- Proposal to amend the operating hours of previous approvals to allow for 24 hour operation of the site; and
- Proposal to amend the 2006 SAT approval to replace the reference to a “Class III landfill site” with “Waste Disposal Facility”, and to amend the 1999 Ministerial Approval to delete the condition which restricts a “Class II landfill site”.
Shire of Dardanup staff attended a site inspection on Wednesday, April 10 with an independent planning consultant appointed by the Shire to assist in the assessment process. Mr. Schönfeldt (CEO Shire of Dardanup) said it was during this site meeting that Cleanaway indicated its intention to withdraw the applications and formal advice was received by Shire staff yesterday.
A Special Council Meeting is still to be held on Tuesday, April 16 to consider the resolutions made at a recent Special Electors Meeting on the issue.
No further comment will be made on the issue until after Council’s meeting on Tuesday.
