A solution to improving the safety of Eaton Drive road users between Forest Highway and Recreation Drive is being reviewed by Main Roads Western Australia following the announcement of a $500,000 Black Spot funding allocation from the State Government this month.
Main Roads are assisting the Shire by conducting a peer review of a traffic study of the area and a concept design for road upgrades at the Eaton Drive intersections of Lavender Way, Blue Wren Drive and Lofthouse Avenue.
One scenario being considered in the study involves:
• Roundabout at intersection of Eaton Drive and Blue Wren Drive
• Traffic lights at the intersection of Eaton Drive and Lofthouse Avenue, with signals to be coordinated with the existing lights at Recreation Drive.
Once a concept design has been agreed, the Shire of Dardanup will commence a period of community consultation on the proposed changes.
Shire of Dardanup Director Infrastructure Luke Botica said the need for future road upgrades in the area was first identified approximately 5 years ago when a Road Safety Audit was conducted along with discussions around traffic associated with the last expansion of Eaton Fair.
