Local visionary honoured with playground naming

A passion for ensuring families and children in the Shire of Dardanup were able to enjoy the outdoors has inspired the naming of our Eaton Foreshore nature playground in honour of the late Colin Spragg.

Colin served as the Shire of Dardanup Shire Clerk/Chief Executive Officer for 26 years and helped create the foundations of so many facilities we all benefit from today.

A sign featuring the full playground name was unveiled onsite at a small ceremony recently attended by Colin’s widow Sherron Spragg and granddaughter Lorelle Dickinson.

Both guests spent some time reflecting on Colin’s achievements and how much naming of the playground in his memory would have meant to him.

Shire of Dardanup CEO Mark Chester said the Eaton Fair Shopping Centre was approved by Council under Colin’s guidance.

“This occurred at a time when the Department of Planning was questioning the validity of the approval but Colin’s knowledge of the Town Planning Scheme and the law meant the Council was on safe ground,” he said.

“As a result, the approval was never able to be challenged.”
