Let’s get busy on Sustainability!

Are you passionate about the environment? Keen to provide input on issues related to sustainability that will guide Council decision-making on our road to 2050?

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, September 16 at 5.00pm!

Sustainability and enhancing connection to the natural environment were consistent themes raised throughout our extensive Vision 2050 community consultations.

Positioned for extensive growth in coming years, Council wants to ensure this is achieved in a sustainable way – and not only that!

Let’s make the Shire of Dardanup a leading light for others on Sustainable Development.

But we need your help to get there.

Come along to the first meeting of Council’s newly established Sustainable Development Advisory Group.

There is no obligation to continue involvement after this first meeting however we are of course hoping you will come away feeling inspired and empowered to create change in your own backyard.

Details on registering for the September 16 event are below.

The Sustainable Development Advisory Group will meet twice per year and act in an advisory capacity on issues relating to the natural and build environment.

The Group will also provide advice and recommendations to Council on:

  • Formulation of a community and Council vision with regards to sustainability
  • The development and implementation of relevant initiatives and programs.

For additional expert guidance on Sustainable Development, we even consulted with celebrity filmmaker Damon Gameau and had an online community screening of his documentary 2040.

The film is available to Shire of Dardanup Library Card Holders who can stream it for free via the kanopy service.

Following our movie event, Damon spoke online with Councillors, Shire of Dardanup staff and community members about a range of topics associated with Sustainable Development.

He was very encouraging about early concepts outlined in our Vision 2050 consultations.

This is what he had to say:

“I want to congratulate you for embarking on this vision. And right now this is exactly what we need to be doing,” Damon said.

You can view the Damon sessions via our youtube channel here.

The Sustainability Advisory Group meeting will be held on:
