Help shape the future of your town!

Community members with passion and vision are being invited to attend a meeting in their town with Shire President Mick Bennett and CEO André Schönfeldt to find out how they can be more involved in shaping their future.

The series of meetings will be 5.00pm to 7.00pm and begin with Burekup on Wednesday, July 8.

This will be followed by meetings for people living in:

  • Dardanup – Wednesday, July 15
  • Eaton – Wednesday, July 22
  • Ferguson – Wednesday, August 12
  • Wanju & Waterloo – Wednesday, August 19

The meetings are part of Council’s renewed commitment to engaging more closely with the community and ensuring a closer alignment of Council planning and community priorities.

Following the series of meetings, community members will be invited to express interest in one of four Council Advisory Groups being established for each town.

The Advisory Groups will meet twice per year in an informal atmosphere to raise ideas, generate discussions and provide advice to Council on proposals, plans and projects. The groups will also operate as a conduit between Council and the community for information sharing.

The Advisory Groups were established under Council’s new Community Engagement Policy which recognises an increased expectation from the community for more direct involvement in Council decision-making.

In addition to the place-based Advisory Groups, the following topic-based Advisory Groups were also formed:

  • Roadwise,
  • Sustainable Development,
  • Community Development,
  • Economic Development, and
  • Sport and Recreation

Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett said not only was greater transparency and engagement with our community expected, but it was also good business practice for Council.

“Successful engagement can improve strategic planning and service delivery, ensuring that Council is addressing the priorities of the community while increasing community support and collaboration,” Cr Bennett said.
