Future of Eaton town centre on the agenda

Continuing to achieve real progress in the Shire of Dardanup means keeping the lines of communication open with our State and Federal Government counterparts.

At times we even rely on their support with funding and/or approvals to convert a vision into reality.

It was for this very reason that Shire President Mick Bennett and CEO Mark Chester met with Collie-Preston MLA Mick Murray recently.

On the agenda was ensuring Mr Murray was up-to-date on planning for development in the Eaton town centre.

In February, Council agreed to seek Ministerial approval for a plan to build a new three-storey, community library and co-located administration building next to Eaton Fair.

That decision followed tabling of an offer last year by Eaton Fair owners Citygate Properties to purchase land currently occupied by the Shire’s Administration Centre, Eaton.

The Citygate offer also included an allocation of 3000sq m of land to the Shire adjoining Eaton Fair for its new building.

Once the plan receives State Government approval and an agreement finalised with Citygate, the project will move to a design phase.

Cr Bennett said Mr Murray indicated he was supportive of the plans.
