Fuel to Go and Play Summer Series is returning to your park this summer!
Parks in the Shire of Dardanup will come to life again this summer with the return of the popular Summer in Your Park Series now promoting the ‘Fuel to Go & Play’ health message.
Similar to previous years, the series will feature free family-friendly and healthy events at parks in Burekup, Eaton and Dardanup from December 2022, to February 2023.
This year’s program includes the return of favourites such as “Movies by Moonlight” where attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a movie under the stars in their local park and “Summer Sounds” which showcases two hours of live, local music.
There will be plenty of events to look forward to across the shire such as wellness sessions, Yoga with Gyani, group fitness classes, a Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Story time in the Park. Kids are invited to take part in the Youth Basketball Competition, laser tag, water day and the much-loved night walks will return with a special Valentine’s Day themed “Date with a Possum” event.
The event series is funded by Council with additional support from Healthway through ‘Fuel to Go & Play’. The 2022 - 2024 series will increase healthy food and drink options at all events and increase the community’s knowledge around the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity.
The event concept, launched in 2020 by the Shire of Dardanup is designed to draw community members into their local parks to foster social connection and engagement.
Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett said the Fuel to Go & Play Summer in Your Park Series offered a platform to showcase the diversity of our community and bring people together by fostering positive connections.
“This event series is about creating vibrancy and connection in our communities,” Cr Bennett said.
“It’s about really making use of the wonderful recreational spaces we have available in the Shire of Dardanup in a way that brings people together while at the same time creating a sense of inclusion and reduced feelings of social isolation for those potentially vulnerable members of our community.”
Last year’s events saw thousands of community members from across the shire and surrounding areas attend the activities offered in the series.
Healthway Lotterywest CEO Ralph Addis said Healthway was proud to support the Shire of Dardanup’s Summer in Your Park Series through Fuel to Go & Play.
“This popular event series is a great opportunity to support families to make healthy food choices and show them how easy it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle through the range of activities on offer,” Mr Addis said.
