First of bird murals unveiled in Shire

Two of three planned urban art projects are now complete and we think the results are pretty spectacular!

The murals celebrating native birdlife are the creation of Perth artist Brenton See and can be found at Cadell Park, Millbridge and Wells Recreation Reserve, Dardanup.

The murals are the first in a series of public art projects celebrating local birdlife being rolled out at three locations in the Shire of Dardanup under a new five-year project recently endorsed by Council.

The final mural will be at the Exchange Building in Burekup.

A total of 27 sites have been identified as suitable for public art projects and a collection will be identified each financial year for attention.

Shire of Dardanup CEO André Schönfeldt said the project was considered important as art contributed to a sense of place, providing an interpretation and expression of our local area’s natural, physical, cultural and social values.

“The theme of local birds was chosen with education in mind and in consultation with Shire’s Environment Officer, birds have been chosen that are of significance to the area,” Mr Schönfeldt said.
