Food Poisoning

Food poisoning is caused by consuming food or drink that is contaminated with certain types of bacteria, viruses or toxins.  Symptoms can vary from mild to severe and are often the same as the symptoms of gastroenteritis.  The elderly, young children, pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems can be more at risk that others of getting food poisoning.  Refer to the Fact Sheet – Food Poisoning for more information including typical symptoms.
