Members of Dardanup Senior Citizens click their knitting needles and crochet hooks together at a furious pace, incredibly producing more than 300 items for donation to charity last year.
And their busy hands have been keeping up the pace again this year too with help from a $1000 funding boost from the Shire of Dardanup’s Minor and Community Grants Scheme.
The group used their grant to purchase yarn for distribution to its members who put their creativity to work by converting them into blankets, rugs, beanies and socks.
The items are then distributed to a range of hospitals (including Princess Margaret Hospital), hostels and charitable organisations.
Treasurer and recent WA Seniors Award Finalist Gwen Wells said the ongoing project not only provided warmth and comfort to the needy, it also kept Dardanup seniors active and busy in their homes.
