Who could forget the confronting images of the eastern states fire storm in January?
We all have a role to play in preventing a fire emergency of that magnitude occurring here. And the Shire of Dardanup is taking an innovative approach to helping the community prepare this summer.
A 1.5-hour online webinar on Sunday, November 8 at 3.00pm will feature eye-opening stories from local volunteer bushfire brigade members who flew into the emergency frontline in January and our Shire Chief Bushfire Control Officer plus DFES officers with valuable tips for preparing your property this summer.
Shire staff will provide an overview of projects by Council to mitigate bushfire risk.
The new online format enables community members to conveniently tune in from the comfort of home.
Shire President Mick Bennett will be in attendance, along with Shire Environmental Officer Jackie Nichol who will provide information on fire retardant plants for your garden and DFES District Officer John Carter will provide a seasonal outlook.
The event will be complemented by a new format postcard-style bushfire notice being delivered to letterboxes in coming weeks.
The postcard contains important dates around burn restrictions and includes a magnet for handy fridge display.
The Cool Down Summer online event is FREE however participants will need to register their interest enabling Shire Staff to provide a unique url to access the webinar. To register visit this page of our website.
