The Cat Act 2011 requires all cats to be micro-chipped, registered and sterilised from the age of 6 months. It is important for both the general community and their cats that the Shire has a record of cats and their owners.
Registration allows the Shire to provide for better facilities and conditions for responsible cat owners.
The benefits of registration are:
- Positive identification of your cat;
- Reuniting lost or injured cats with their owners;
- Investigation and resolution of cat problems; and
- Encouraging desexing of cats through discounted registration fees & vouchers.
The period of registration (or cat year) runs from 1 November to 31 October, regardless of when the cat is actually registered. Kittens under the age of 6 months are deemed not to be a cat. Current registrations can be transferred between most local councils within Western Australia.
To assist with the cost of sterilising your cat the Shire of Dardanup has a limited number of vouchers which can be used to reduce the costs of cat sterilisation.
Vouchers are available at the Administration Centre – Eaton and Dardanup Office.
