New national warning system arrives for bushfire season

Icons displayed on the Emergency WA website indicating warning levels during bushfire season are changing to match a new nationally consistent system.

And the Shire of Dardanup is assisting the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to raise awareness about the new icons to ensure residents know what to do when they see a warning level.

The Australian Warning System is a national approach to information and warnings and aims to provide consistent warnings to Australian communities, so people know what they need to do when they see a warning level.

The AWS is being implemented in WA by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services through a phased approach with the first phase to be implemented from 14 September 2021.

The most important thing to know is that the colours for bushfire warnings issued on Emergency WA will be changing ahead of the 2021-22 bushfire season.
These new colours reflect the new national framework.

The new Australian Warning System has been developed in response to recommendations by the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements following the devastating bushfire season of 2019-2020.
